What is Chenrezi?
Chenrezi has been developed over centuries, by masters of meditation. Chenrezi is not a person, nor what we might think of as "a god". But neither is it just a concept. The Buddhists of Tibet teach that Chenrezi is actually an aspect of our own beings. It is a potent combination of symbols and idealized human form, and the product of a remarkable spiritual technology. Chenrezi is a many-layered metaphor; a tool - designed specifically to help us evoke and tune into the enlightened power of compassion.
Compassion is not a character trait, which by chance some have and others don't. Compassion is innate to the human essence, to what Tibetans call "natural mind". Drawing compassion out from that natural mind is a skill. And like all skills, it can be learned.
BEING COMPASSION: a Step by Step DVD Guide to a Transformative Tibetan Meditation presents a unique set of exercises using Chenrezi, to help develop the skill of compassion. As we progress, the practice opens us; we become less fixated on the notion of our small, isolated self and begin to realize - and to be transformed by - the universally wise and loving qualities of Chenrezi, the Bodhisattva of Compassion.
